Softball 3D Coach – Dimension 1 – Fundamentals
Softball 3D Coach – Dimension 1 – Fundamentals
In 3D coaching, the first dimension refers to the physical or fundamental skills of the sport. Module 4 of the 3D coaching modules focuses on the fundamentals.
Key aspects of the first dimension:
Proficiency and Mastery Coaches need to be proficient and pursue mastery in the 1st Dimension attributes of their sport.
Physical Training
This includes the physical conditioning required for the sport. Positive conditioning is an important concept. Coaches should ensure athletes perceive physical training as something they get to do, rather than something they have to do.
Skill Development
The first dimension focuses on the fundamental skills and techniques of the sport.
Tactics
The first dimension also encompasses the tactics of the sport. However, coaches should avoid an early focus on tactics that could hamper skill development.
Sport-Specific
Every sport is different in this dimension.
Balance
Unfettered progress can throw lives out of balance.
People,
Not Just Sport Coaches should remember they are coaching people to pursue mastery in sport, not just coaching the sport itself.
When a coach’s approach to the 1st Dimension increases learning, enhances relationships, and brings joy to players, they increase the possibility of performance success and open the door to 2nd and 3rd Dimension development
