2023 is nearing its end, and we are very grateful to our Lord that we had the privilege of serving in sports for another year. Since our last newsletter in August, our staff has been involved in numerous opportunities.
3D COACHING
Mark Hull (International Director of the 3D Institute) visited South Africa in November. Mark and Christo Spies visited schools in the Western Cape to promote 3D Coaching and serve coaches while having sessions with university coaches and lecturers. These schools and coaches will be followed up in 2024, and hopefully, we will establish working relationships.
FCA’S DON McCLAREN EXPERIENCE
Christo Spies was also part of FCA’s Don McClanen Experience, a two-year journey focused on leadership development. We are busy streamlining our leadership development for 2024 by assisting staff members to play to their strengths as far as possible.
INTERNATIONAL SPORT AND LEADERSHIP SCHOOL
SCAS hosted the International Sport and Leadership School (ISLS) for three months at Die Eiland. What a privilege to see 28 leaders from 24 countries trained in sports ministry. We pray that God will use them mightily in the nations.
FCA SOUTHERN AFRICA CAPACITY CONFERENCE
SCAS also facilitated the FCA Southern Africa Capacity Conference in November. FCA staff members from the USA and leaders from ministries in Southern Africa were in attendance. They underwent training to enhance their countries’ ministries and did outreaches with SCAS in some underprivileged areas in Stellenbosch.
VARIOUS OUTREACHES
Our field workers, Marco Mongia, Reagan Adams, and Wendell Bezuidenhout were involved in outreaches, events, school assemblies, and huddles at schools for coaches and athletes. They were also involved with Bible study groups at a school. The impact and influence on these children are heartwarming to see. During the second week of December, our field workers will be involved with a beach outreach (‘stranddiens’) to serve children on vacation.
In 2024, they will serve at various schools two mornings weekly and at a soccer upliftment program every Friday afternoon. We hope to explore ministry to football coaches and players as there are more and more opportunities for ministry in the soccer world. Therefore, the field workers attended a football coaching course presented by Ambassadors Football.
CAMPS
Alie and Annemarie have been very successful additions to the SCAS team, and ‘Die Eiland’ training centre bookings have increased dramatically. In the future, we plan to do more SCAS training camps and will communicate the details on our website and Facebook pages.
We thank everyone who has supported us as prayer partners or financial partners. It is wonderful to do this ministry with your support, and we pray that we can expand the ministry in South Africa. May you and your family experience Jesus Christ’s love and compassion this season.
